Sakura trees – part 1 – make a draft version of your work.

“Sakura trees” is my first commission artwork. I worked on it very long so decided to share with us not just final work but also steps during creating this painting. This will be a cycle of five articles, in which you will see progress of this artwork.

Because it is my first commission work I would like to prepare before I will start painting. So at first I met with my client to find out what they expect from painting. Because of pandemic Covid-19 most conversation was made by phone or Internet, but it isn’t any problem for me. It is much easier when someone gives you a photo and say – please paint for me exactly the same. Unfortunately it isn’t this case. I got many pictures with comments: “from picture one I want this part and from picture two I want another part and colors have to be different and it need to fit to our interior design”. Sometimes people don’t exactly know what they really want. In this case they only were sure of size of painting (100 x 159 cm) because in the end this painting would be installed on the frame which hide television in saloon. Frame was already installed permanent in the wall so there was no possibility to take their frame and stretch canvas on it.

I decided to preapare a colourful sketch of that what they want. For it is better because canvas is really big so my plan was to paint first time right.

Above you can see my vision of what they want. I wanted to get an approve from them. Unfortunately they change their mind. I heard: “I think it is sad painting because the family is going somewhere alone like they were going for death or something terrible”. And I got new guidelines. So I decided to prepare second sketch.

Second sketch was approved by client with some small corrections but after that I knew what they want and what they expect from painting.

To be continued …
